Adam Scott has joined Dakota Johnson in the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff for Sony that is already titled Madame Web. The new movie will be directed by S.J. Clarkson.
Adam Scott Jumps on Board Madame Web
Adam Scott recently earned an Emmy nomination for his starring role in Dan Erickson’s sci-fi series Severance for AppleTV+ appearing alongside John Turturro, Christopher Walken, and Patricia Arquette. Now, the 49-years old actor joins a cast that also includes Dakota Johnson, Emma Roberts, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, and Sydney Sweeney.
Madame Web Was First Introduced in 1980
Madame Web is a clairvoyant mutant who specializes in predicting the future of Spider-themed superheroes and was first introduced in the 1980 comics The Amazing Spider-Man No. 210. The character mentioned not only Peter Parker’s alter ego but also multiple generations of heroes calling themselves Spider-Woman.
Madame Web will add to Sony’s growing Spider-verse which included the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man trilogy, the two Tom Hardy Venom movies, and Morbius with Jared Leto.
Scott’s Character Has Not Yet Been Revealed
There are pictures of Adam Scott on the set of Madame Web and it isn’t clear whether he is performing or just in street clothes. For all we know, he could be playing just about anyone in the Spider-Man universe. In the photos, the actor is sporting a rather stylish beard and his hair is brushed back. The unbuttoned plaid work shirt with a grimy white t-shirt underneath, along with cuffed blue jeans give him a rather low-key look making fans question the importance of his role.
Sony Pictures has the right to new creations, so Adam Scott could be playing a completely new character that was never introduced before. After a bit of reshuffling, Madame Web is set to come out in theaters on October 6. 2023, and we hope we won’t have to wait until then to find out which character Adam Scott will be playing.
